HOW DO OUR BIG SHOWS
COME TOGETHER

The 'WayOut Girls' are a coalition of some of the best drag queens / female impersonators in London inspired by Steffan Whitfield our co-founder.
panto
Each of the 'girls' has her own repertoire and performs a solo show - But they all love nothing better than to get together to put on big extravaganza's at WayOut Club.
disco divas
If the girls are not working at The WayOut Club in a show they will invariably call in at the club after a show elsewhere or just to socialise with their 'sisters'.
Sarah Lloyd
Many of the girls have developed their skills at 'The WayOut Club' and have indeed been competitors (but not necessarily winners) in the WayOut talent searchs.
minnieattianemiss deb
WayOut Shows are usually scheduled at least once per month the 'WayOut Girls' bring together costumes, scenery and props in an
Extravaganza Show.

Some shows are tributes to one artist or a genre of artists. Some are tributes to a film, music concert or stage show ALL are one off 'over the top' shows that could not be repeated (even if we tried to)
rocky horror
We could not possibly put on such amazing shows without the creative life styles of all of the WayOut Girls, especially Miss Sarah Lloyd who makes costumes and backdrops (and also has an extensive collection of camp musicals on film and and CD).

Once Vicky agrees the concept of a WayOut show for the diary, One of the girls creates a sound track. By phone we swap ideas with everyone offering costumes props and ideas. Sarah LLoyd will often make a set of costumes in just a few days.

Detailed routines and choreography are rehearsed individually. The whole show comes together in one session. These sessions can be stressful with queeny egos pulling in all directions but they can equally be great fun and a great release of creative energy by the talented team. They are sometimes in the kitchen at the club 5 minutes before the show.

On the night (if we are lucky) we run through the show before the club gets too busy. On the night of a WayOut show at 9.30 you could catch the team in heels and boy clothes (half made-up) walking the show through. Stressed to bits cos everything is half prepared. After many years Vicky just gets on with it quietly tying up technical details and loose ends (who is changing scenery who is switching lights).

At show time costumes are laid out make-up checked and an excited buzz takes over the dressing room. All the girls are confident and practiced yet often the show has never been rehearsed completely. This is the rehearsal and the first and last time this show will be performed. The audience are about to see something amazing we hope.

steffanWe always at this point remember Steffan's develish grin as he almost dared us to complete the challenge he set us to follow in his footsteps and hear him say in our mind "Hear we go again girls - break a leg" . 40 minutes later as many as 15 performers and hundreds of costumes collapse in a happy heap. Back patting and thanks confirm the enjoyment. We gather round the two inch screen of the video camera that has captured the one and only exclusive performance.

Did the audience enjoy it? Did they notice the costume flown in from ibiza for its 2min performance? Or the suptle third layer of rhinestones. Do we care anymore? not really. The fun is in doing it.

steffanAnd next month we will do it again with the same queeny apprehension, stressed egos and disbelief and a develish twinkle from you know who, now watching us with an audience of angels.
